Installation and Wiring Guidelines for Hikvision DS-KD8003-IME1(B)

Mechanical Enclosure and Mounting Options

The Hikvision DS-KD8003-IME1(B) modular door station main unit features a compact form factor measuring 98 mm × 100 mm × 42 mm with a unit net weight of 380 g (gross weight 541 g). The electronic module is engineered for integration into Hikvision modular mounting hardware, supporting both surface mounting and flush mounting configurations via optional modular frames and back boxes, including the DS-KD-ACW series and DS-KD-ACF series.

When positioning the unit, installers should account for the integrated 2 MP HD fisheye camera optics, which provide an ultra-wide horizontal field of view of 146° and a vertical field of view of 82°. Mounting height should optimize visitor facial capture while utilizing the built-in IR supplement lighting and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) in challenging illumination environments. The unit holds an IP65 ingress protection rating and operates reliably in extreme outdoor temperature conditions from -40 °C to 60 °C (-40 °F to 140 °F).

Network and Power Supply Integration

The DS-KD8003-IME1(B) requires connection to an IP infrastructure via its single 10/100 Mbps self-adaptive RJ-45 Ethernet interface. Field technicians can energize the device using one of two methods:

  • Power over Ethernet (PoE): Standard IEEE 802.3af PoE supplied directly through the network switch infrastructure over standard twisted-pair cabling.
  • Direct DC Input: External 12 VDC, 500 mA regulated power supply input.

The device maintains energy-efficient operation with total power consumption rated at ≤ 5 W.

Door Lock Relays and Peripheral Terminal Wiring

The terminal interfaces on the rear of the main module provide direct control over two access entry points. The unit incorporates two onboard dry-contact relays rated up to 30 VDC, 2 A for electric strike, magnetic lock, or automated gate operator tripping.

Terminal FunctionElectrical SpecificationDefault Configuration / Notes
Lock Relays (2 Outputs)Max. 30 VDC, 2 ADry contact control for two independent door locks or gates
Auxiliary Lock Power12 VDC, 500 mADirect power output for one low-draw lock without external power supply
Alarm Inputs (4 Ports)Digital contact logicConfigured by default for 2 exit buttons and 2 door status contacts
Tamper SwitchIntegrated physical switchDetects chassis removal or enclosure dismantling for anti-tamper alarm

Sub-Module RS-485 Interconnection

The DS-KD8003-IME1(B) serves as the primary system host and communication master for modular intercom expansions. It includes a dedicated RS-485 serial communication interface designed to daisy-chain and coordinate up to 16 Hikvision modular sub-units. Compatible extension modules include:

  • Input and Calling: Keypad module (DS-KD-KP) and multi-button nametag call modules (DS-KD-KK, DS-KD-K12).
  • Access Control: RFID card reader modules (DS-KD-M, DS-KD-E).
  • Display and Status: LCD display module (DS-KD-DIS), indicator module (DS-KD-IN), and information display module (DS-KD-INFO).

System Commissioning and Web Configuration

Once wired and linked to the local network, field commissioning does not require specialized hardware programming tools. System administrators and installers can configure network addressing, video encoding (H.264, H.265, MJPEG), audio bitrates, user permissions (up to 2,000 users and 6,000 access cards), and indoor station routing (up to 500 linked indoor stations) remotely through an embedded web browser interface. The device supports TCP/IP, RTSP, IPv6, and ONVIF communication protocols for seamless integration into multi-tenant and commercial building management topologies.
