Hikvision DS-KD8003-IME1(B) System Compatibility and Integration

The Hikvision DS-KD8003-IME1(B) functions as the central electronic master station for the KD8 Series Pro modular video intercom architecture. It coordinates external sub-modules, physical door-locking hardware, multi-unit network endpoints, and power distribution infrastructures across commercial, enterprise, and multi-tenant residential installations.

Modular Hardware Sub-Unit Compatibility

The DS-KD8003-IME1(B) incorporates a dedicated RS-485 serial communication interface engineered specifically to cascade and control peripheral modular hardware. A single master unit can manage up to 16 sub-door station modules via this bus, allowing engineers to customize entry stations for site-specific requirements. Supported Hikvision KD-series modules include:

  • Keypad Module: DS-KD-KP for numeric code entry and apartment dialing.
  • Card Reader Modules: DS-KD-M (Mifare) and DS-KD-E (EM card reader) supporting local credential handling for up to 6,000 cards and 2,000 distinct users.
  • Name Tag and Call Expansion: DS-KD-KK and DS-KD-BK physical nametag button assemblies.
  • Visual & Information Modules: DS-KD-DIS electronic LCD display, DS-KD-IN indicator module, and DS-KD-INFO directory information module.

Mounting Hardware and Frame Integration

The unit measures 98 mm × 100 mm × 42 mm and is designed for direct integration into Hikvision's multi-gang mounting frames. The module interfaces natively with both flush-mount and surface-mount architectures:

  • Surface Mount Frames: Fully compatible with DS-KD-ACW1 (1-gang), DS-KD-ACW2 (2-gang), and DS-KD-ACW3 (3-gang) surface-mount protective housings.
  • Flush Mount Frames: Compatible with DS-KD-ACF1/Plastic (1-gang), DS-KD-ACF2/Plastic (2-gang), and DS-KD-ACF3/Plastic (3-gang) flush-mount back boxes and faceplate kits.

Access Control and Lock Hardware Interfacing

For entrance physical security control, the DS-KD8003-IME1(B) provides integrated I/O terminals that directly link to peripheral entry hardware without requiring separate sub-controllers:

  • Relay Outputs: Two independent relay lock controls rated up to 30 VDC, 2 A, supporting dual-gate or two-lock operations (e.g., pedestrian gate and perimeter vehicle gate).
  • Lock Auxiliary Power Output: Provides a built-in 12 VDC, 500 mA output configured to power an electronic lock directly from the unit, eliminating the need for a secondary auxiliary power supply unit for standard-duty locks.
  • Input Terminals: Equipped with 4 physical alarm inputs, mapped by default to accept 2 request-to-exit (REX) push-buttons and 2 magnetic door status contacts.
  • Anti-Dismantle Tamper: Includes one onboard physical tamper switch circuit to trigger system alerts upon unauthorized enclosure removal.

Network, Protocol, and Video Management Compatibility

Equipped with a self-adaptive 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet port, the door station links into standard TCP/IP environments and communicates using standard IP network protocols, including TCP/IP, IPv6, RTSP, and ONVIF. ONVIF conformance and RTSP streaming allow the 2 MP camera feed (supporting H.264, H.265, and MJPEG compression) to be integrated into third-party Network Video Recorders (NVRs) and Video Management Software (VMS). For bidirectional intercom audio, the internal DSP supports G.711 U, G.711 A, Opus, AAC-LD, AAC-LC, G.726, and G.722.1 audio codecs at a 64 Kbps compression rate.

Indoor Station and Power Distribution Interoperability

At the system topology level, a single DS-KD8003-IME1(B) master unit can link and route video calls to a capacity of up to 500 IP video intercom indoor stations across the LAN. Power compatibility encompasses standard IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) over network cabling or direct 12 VDC, 500 mA external power inputs (compatible with standard 12 VDC industrial power supplies such as the DS-KAW50-1), maintaining total device power consumption at ≤ 5 W.
