eSSL C3-400 Multi-Door Controller Installation and Wiring Guide

The eSSL C3-400 multi-door access control panel is engineered for physical security deployments managing up to 4 doors simultaneously. Proper field installation requires attention to mechanical mounting, electrical line sizing, credential reader transmission topology, and network communication parameters.

Cabinet Mounting and Environmental Considerations

The controller bundle is supplied housed inside a powder-coated aluminium enclosure weighing 3.55 kg (7.8 lbs), with exterior dimensions of 380 mm (L) × 80 mm (W) × 280 mm (H) (15 in. × 3.15 in. × 11 in.). The bare printed circuit board measures 160 mm × 106 mm (6.3 in. × 4.17 in.). The enclosure is designed for wall mount installation in clean, dry environments such as dedicated telecom or security equipment rooms.

Ensure the installation site complies with the unit's operating temperature limits of 0°C to 55°C and relative humidity levels between 10% and 80% (non-condensing). Maintain adequate perimeter clearance around the aluminium cabinet to allow clean conduit entry, heat dissipation, and maintenance access.

Power Supply Requirements

The eSSL C3-400 controller operates across a DC voltage range of 9.6V to 14.4V with a rated maximum consumption of 1A. A dedicated 12V DC, 1.5A regulated power supply is recommended to ensure system stability under full load. During commissioning and periodic maintenance, measure the input voltage directly across the controller's power terminals to confirm it remains consistently within the required 9.6V to 14.4V DC operating window.

Reader Wiring and Credential Interfaces

The board architecture supports up to 12 readers in total, configured as either 8 RS-485 readers or 4 standard 26-bit Wiegand readers:

  • Wiegand Readers: Compatible with 26-bit Wiegand protocols (including proximity, MIFARE, and HID formats). Connect Data 0, Data 1, power, and ground leads to the corresponding onboard terminal blocks for up to 4 entry points.
  • RS-485 Readers: Up to 8 RS-485 readers can be integrated along the serial bus. Ensure correct A/B differential polarity and assign distinct hardware addresses to each reader to prevent bus collision.

Terminal Input and Relay Output Connections

The C3-400 is equipped with 12 onboard inputs and 8 Form-C relay outputs arranged via pluggable screw terminals:

  • Input Terminals (12 total): Provides dedicated terminals for 4 request-to-exit (RTE) devices, 4 door status sensors (door contacts), and 4 auxiliary inputs. Auxiliary inputs connect directly to third-party dry contacts from fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, or infrared motion sensors.
  • Output Terminals (8 total): Contains 4 Form-C relays designated for fail-safe or fail-secure electronic door locks, alongside 4 Form-C auxiliary relays. Auxiliary relays can be configured to actuate external sirens, strobe lights, CCTV recording triggers, or doorbells upon alarm events.

Network Commissioning and Interface Diagnostics

For configuration, data synchronization, and browser-based management, connect the controller to the local area network using the standard onboard RJ-45 TCP/IP interface. An RS-485 multidrop interface is also available for serial network integration, along with optional Wi-Fi support. Common communication faults during initial setup stem from IP subnet mismatches between the controller and host server, or inverted polarity and duplicate addressing along the RS-485 bus.
