Installation and Field Wiring Guide for eSSL C3-200 Two-Door Access Controller

Mechanical Enclosure and Mounting Specifications

The eSSL C3-200 access control system is supplied in a protective powder-coated aluminium enclosure intended for secure surface wall mounting in indoor control rooms or telecommunications closets. The bundle enclosure measures 380 mm (L) × 80 mm (W) × 280 mm (H) [15 in. × 3.15 in. × 11 in.] with a total weight of 7.5 lbs (3.4 kg). When unhoused for dedicated panel sub-assembly integration, the controller board measures 160 mm × 106 mm [6.3 in. × 4.17 in.]. Install the unit on a flat, vibration-free vertical surface within an ambient operating temperature envelope of 0°C to 45°C.

Power Supply Terminal Connections

The C3-200 system operates on a dedicated external DC power source. Terminate power input conductors to the primary board terminals adhering strictly to polarity markers:

  • Input Voltage: Regulated 12V DC.
  • Current Rating: Minimum 1.5A dedicated controller supply.
  • Polarity: Verify positive (+12V) and ground (GND) lines prior to energizing to prevent input circuit faults. Electronic locking hardware and auxiliary signalling devices drawing high peak currents must be powered using an appropriately rated external auxiliary power supply sharing a common reference ground.

Reader Interface Wiring: Wiegand and RS-485

The controller manages up to 2 doors independently and supports up to 8 total readers configured as either 4 RS-485 serial readers or 4 standard 26-bit Wiegand readers (other formats available upon request):

  • 26-Bit Wiegand Bus: Wire reader leads to the dedicated onboard Wiegand terminal ports consisting of DATA0 (WD0), DATA1 (WD1), Ground (GND), and +12V DC power output. Avoid cross-wiring DATA0 and DATA1 to prevent credential read corruption.
  • RS-485 Reader Bus: For multi-drop reader wiring, land shielded twisted-pair cabling onto the dedicated RS-485 reader terminals (485A+ and 485B-), maintaining continuous bus topology and terminating bus ends per RS-485 networking practices.

Lock Relay and Auxiliary Output Configuration

The controller provides 4 onboard Form-C relay outputs featuring dry Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), and Common (COM) contact screw terminals:

Relay OutputRelay TypeTypical Field Device AssignmentCircuit Operation
Lock Relays 1 & 2Form-C Dry ContactElectromagnetic locks, electric strikes, drop boltsNC/COM for fail-safe (power-to-lock); NO/COM for fail-secure (power-to-unlock)
Aux Relays 1 & 2Form-C Dry ContactExternal sirens, strobe lights, automation controllersConfigurable dry contact trigger for alarm linkages and interlock signals

Input Sensor and Request-to-Exit Terminations

The C3-200 controller is engineered with 6 onboard digital inputs for direct field monitoring:

  • Exit Device Inputs (2): Connect standard normally open (NO) momentary exit push buttons for Door 1 and Door 2 across the respective exit input and ground terminals.
  • Door Status Inputs (2): Terminate magnetic door position reed contacts across the door sensor terminals to monitor open/closed door states, tailgating, and door forced-open conditions.
  • Auxiliary Inputs (2): Connect dry-contact external sensors such as smoke detectors, intrusion alarms, or auxiliary triggers to activate automated interlock or alarm linkage routines.

Network and System Commissioning

Connect the C3-200 controller to the local area network using the onboard RJ-45 TCP/IP Ethernet interface (IEEE 802.3 standard) or the primary RS-485 communication bus; optional Wi-Fi connectivity is supported where field cabling is impractical. Assign an unconflicted IP address and appropriate subnet mask within your management software to communicate with the onboard 32-bit 400 MHz CPU, 32 MB RAM, and 128 MB non-volatile flash memory, which maintains 30,000 cardholders and 100,000 transaction events offline during network outages.
