Biomax N-X990 Hardware Installation and Wiring Guide

Physical Mounting and Environmental Specifications

The Biomax N-X990 biometric reader features an enclosure profile measuring 160 mm in width, 210 mm in height, and 40 mm in depth, with a net unit weight of 0.65 kg. For ergonomic operation of the 3-inch TFT color screen, optical fingerprint prism, and integrated keypad, the reader should be installed on an interior flat vertical wall surface or rigid junction frame at an operational centerline height matching standard access clearance. The terminal is rated for operational ambient temperatures ranging from 0°C to 50°C. Installations in industrial facilities, schools, corporate offices, or construction site offices must ensure the scanning aperture remains protected from direct outdoor precipitation and extreme solar glare.

Power Supply and Battery Configuration

The N-X990 requires a regulated operating power input of 12V DC at 2A current. Installers must route dedicated, properly sized low-voltage DC power cabling from a certified access control linear or switched power source to the rear terminal block to maintain voltage stability. This specific model variation incorporates an internal rechargeable battery backup unit within the chassis, ensuring continuous biometric verification and uninterrupted transaction event capture during primary mains power outages. If supplementary external backup batteries (they are not included) or auxiliary battery enclosures are deployed in the power distribution cabinet, installers must verify polarity prior to energizing the line to prevent electrical reverse-polarity damage.

Access Control Relay Interlock and Locking Hardware

The terminal features an onboard mechanical dry-contact output relay rated for direct door-strike actuation and automated access hardware interlock. The relay connections integrate directly into system circuits controlling:

  • Electromagnetic lock (EM lock) power interrupt loops.
  • Motorized or solenoid-driven drop bolts.
  • Electric door strikes and automated gate release interfaces.

For installations driving inductive locking hardware, an appropriate flyback diode or transient voltage suppressor must be wired across the lock terminals to clamp inductive voltage spikes away from the main board relay contacts.

Peripheral Reader and Exit Device Integration

The Biomax N-X990 functions as a standalone intelligent door controller capable of managing bidirectional access points via dedicated peripheral interfaces:

  • Wiegand Input and Output: Dedicated lines support selectable Wiegand 26-bit, Wiegand 34-bit, and user-customized binary string communication, facilitating connection to third-party access control panels or external Wiegand proximity readers.
  • Serial Slave Readers: Integrated RS485 communication lines allow connection of dedicated RS-485 exit readers for secure in/out personnel auditing.
  • Request to Exit (REX) Inputs: Terminals support auxiliary trigger devices including physical push buttons, wireless remote relay modules, and infrared no-touch exit sensors.

Network Infrastructure and Controller Configuration

Field deployment provides versatile data transmission paths to enterprise time-attendance and security databases via native Ethernet TCP/IP (LAN) RJ-45 ports, onboard Wi-Fi, RS232/RS485 serial buses, and a USB host/client interface. Once connected to the local network infrastructure, the embedded Linux system utilizes real-time Push Data technology to automatically synchronize transactional access logs to desktop, web, or cloud server architectures. Access parameters can be customized via the 3-inch display and onboard interface, including custom daily time zones, holiday rules, user access groups, and combination verification rules across fingerprint, RFID card, and password credentials.
