Biomax N-X990 System and Hardware Compatibility

Network and Server Architecture Compatibility

The Biomax N-X990 biometric reader operates on an embedded Linux operating system and integrates multiple data communication standards to interface with local networks, distributed site infrastructure, and central enterprise management platforms. The unit features built-in Ethernet TCP/IP (LAN) and wireless Wi-Fi interfaces for standard IP networking. In addition, onboard physical serial RS232 and RS485 communication ports allow direct serial communication with host controllers, terminal networks, and legacy supervisory systems. A USB Host/Client port is provided for manual data retrieval, event log downloads, and administrative firmware maintenance.

For enterprise software environments, the N-X990 incorporates automated Push Data technology. This protocol synchronizes transaction logs, audit trails, and biometric event records directly with central servers in real time without requiring manual polling queries. The hardware supports multi-tier attendance management architectures across Desktop, Web-based, and Cloud computing platforms, as well as dedicated Employee Self-Service mobile applications. For custom enterprise resource planning (ERP), human resources management systems (HRMS), and automated payroll systems, Biomax provides a comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK) to facilitate direct software-level integration.

Access Control Hardware and Peripheral Interfacing

The Biomax N-X990 functions as a standalone physical access control controller and reader equipped with an integrated output relay designed to actuate locking mechanisms directly. The onboard relay terminal connects to common electronic locking hardware, including electromagnetic shear/maglocks and motorized electric drop bolts. It natively accommodates physical access configurations requiring customized daily time zones, holiday exceptions, access groups, and multi-factor combination verification sequences.

To support ingress and egress tracking across bi-directional access points, the device includes dedicated Wiegand lines configurable for Wiegand input and Wiegand output. It communicates standard Wiegand 26-bit and Wiegand 34-bit data structures, as well as customized bit formats to integrate with third-party central access control panels. System engineers can expand single-door coverage by interfacing auxiliary peripheral devices, including:

  • RS-485 exit readers for networked peripheral communication.
  • Wiegand slave card and biometric readers.
  • Physical egress push buttons and mechanical exit switches.
  • No-touch infrared exit sensors for contactless egress.
  • Wireless remote control relay triggers.

Credential Technologies and Expansion Modules

For credential verification, the standard factory configuration of the N-X990 features an internal low-frequency 125 kHz EM RFID proximity card reader module. The terminal can also be factory-specified with an optional 13.56 MHz Mifare high-frequency IC card reader module to support smart card identification infrastructures. This allows the terminal to cross-verify users via 500 DPI optical fingerprint capture, RFID cards, and numerical keypad PIN codes across its 10,000-user onboard memory bank.

For specialized field deployments, industrial sites, and mobile operations, the terminal hardware supports modular integration with external hardware peripherals. Optional communication add-ons include a 4G cellular GPRS transmission module for remote sites lacking local LAN or Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as a GPS location tracking module. For physical audit receipt generation, the unit can be interfaced with an optional external thermal printer. The device operates on an external regulated 12V DC, 2A power supply and features internal rechargeable battery backup support to maintain reader operation during primary power interruptions; standalone dry cell batteries (they are not included) are not utilized.
