The Ahuja SSA-250DP is a 250W RMS (300W Max) public address mixer amplifier engineered for multi-speaker networks and continuous operation. When experiencing system faults, audio degradation, or power interruptions, systematically follow the technical troubleshooting procedures below.
1. Resettable Circuit Breaker Tripping & Overload Shutdown
The SSA-250DP incorporates a rear-panel resettable thermal-magnetic circuit breaker that trips during excessive current draw, load short circuits, or impedance mismatches, isolating the output stage without requiring fuse replacement.
- Speaker Impedance Mismatch: Ensure that low-impedance loads connected across the COM and 4Ω or 8Ω terminals match the nominal load. Never connect a combined speaker load below 4Ω to low-impedance taps.
- Line Distribution Overload: When driving 70V or 100V line-matching transformer (LMT) speaker networks, sum the wattage ratings of all connected speaker taps. The total power draw must not exceed the amplifier's rated 250W RMS capacity.
- High-Voltage vs. Low-Impedance Terminal Cross-Wiring: Never connect low-impedance speakers (4Ω or 8Ω) directly to the 70V or 100V terminals. Doing so causes severe current overdraw and immediately trips the breaker.
- Resetting Procedure: Disconnect the AC mains power, rectify the speaker short or load impedance mismatch, wait for the breaker mechanism to cool, and push the breaker plunger back in before powering on.
2. Audio Distortion, Noise, and Frequency Clipping
Total Harmonic Distortion is rated at 10% at the 250W RMS limit, with a baseline frequency response of 50 Hz to 15,000 Hz (±3dB) and a 60dB signal-to-noise ratio. Audio distortion typically stems from improper gain staging or incorrect tone settings.
- Input Sensitivity Overdrive: The SSA-250DP provides 6 Microphone inputs (0.65mV/4.7kΩ), 2 Auxiliary inputs (100mV/470kΩ), and 1 Line input (1V/50kΩ). Connecting line-level audio sources into high-gain Mic inputs will overdrive the preamplifier stage. Route external mixers or playback consoles strictly to Aux (100mV) or Line In (1V).
- Tone Control Saturation: Bass (±10dB at 100Hz) and Treble (±10dB at 10kHz) controls provide significant frequency equalization. Operating with excessive bass boost near rated peak power (300W Max) pushes the amplifier into clipping. Reduce tone knobs toward the flat (0dB) center position.
3. Driver Unit Protection & Horn Acoustic Optimization
Operating high-frequency acoustic horn driver units on full-range signals can cause mechanical diaphragm damage from low-frequency excursions.
- Selector Switch Verification: Verify the position of the rear/front 'Box Speaker / Driver Unit' selector switch.
- Driver Unit Mode: When connecting horn driver units, always set the switch to 'Driver Unit'. This defeats the internal bass boost circuit to protect the voice coil and diaphragm from low-frequency stress.
- Box Speaker Mode: Use 'Box Speaker' mode only when driving sealed or ported full-range cabinet speakers requiring low-end response down to 50 Hz.
4. Power Supply Faults & 24V DC Transfer Diagnostics
The unit operates on 220–240V AC (50/60Hz, 460VA consumption) with automatic instantaneous failover to 24V DC battery backup (they are not included) drawing up to 6A.
- No Power on AC Mains: Verify input voltage is within 220–240V AC. Check mains cable integrity and verify that the front-panel power switch illuminates.
- DC Failover Failure: When using external 24V DC backup consisting of 2 x 12V car batteries (they are not included), ensure strict terminal polarity across the rear DC terminals. Reverse polarity or depleted batteries (they are not included) below 24V nominal will prevent DC operation during AC grid loss.
5. Signal Routing: Preamplifier, Line Output & MP3/Bluetooth Interface
- No Signal to Booster Amplifiers: When daisy-chaining secondary power amplifiers, utilize the Line Output (1V/1kΩ) or Preamplifier Output (200mV/600Ω). Verify interconnect cables and ensure slave amplifier inputs accept standard 1V line levels.
