No Power Indication on Receiver or Handheld Transmitter
If the Ahuja AWM-495V1 system fails to power on during setup or field operation, check both the receiver and transmitter power sources independently:
- Receiver Unit: Verify that the external 12V DC AC adapter is firmly plugged into a live 220–240V AC mains supply socket and that the barrel plug is securely seated in the receiver rear DC inlet. Ensure the front-panel Power Switch is pressed to the ON position. The Red LED Power indicator on the front panel must illuminate. If the Red LED remains dark, verify the mains outlet voltage and check the adapter cable for physical discontinuity.
- Handheld Transmitter: Ensure the 2-position slide switch on the microphone body is slid to the ON position. Check that 2 x 1.5V AA pencil cells (they are not included) are inserted inside the battery compartment with correct polarity. If the green LED power indicator fails to glow or appears dim, replace the depleted 2 x 1.5V AA cells (they are not included) with fresh alkaline cells (they are not included). Current consumption is rated up to 100 mA at 3V DC.
RF Carrier Signal Indicator Inactive (Green LED Dark on Receiver)
The green LED RF signal indicator on the receiver front panel indicates successful reception of the factory-locked quartz crystal VHF high-band carrier transmitted at up to 15 mW RF output power.
- Telescopic Antenna Adjustment: Ensure the rear-mounted telescopic antenna on the receiver is fully extended vertically. Operating the receiver with the antenna collapsed or shielded inside metal equipment racks can attenuate VHF RF reception.
- Line of Sight and Distance: Ensure an unobstructed path between the transmitter internal dipole antenna and the receiver telescopic antenna. Thick concrete walls or large metallic structures can create multi-path signal nulls.
- Transmitter Power State: Confirm the transmitter slide switch is ON. When 2 x 1.5V AA pencil cells (they are not included) drop below operating voltage, transmitter RF stage power diminishes rapidly, leading to RF dropouts. Replace the cells (they are not included).
No Audio Output to Connected PA Mixer / Amplifier
When both the receiver Red Power LED and Green RF Signal LED are illuminated but no audio is heard from the sound reinforcement system:
- Audio Cable Interconnection: Check the 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) unbalanced phone jack cable connecting the receiver rear output socket (0–55 mV / 1 kΩ) to the microphone or auxiliary input of the PA mixer amplifier. Ensure the jack plugs are fully seated on both ends.
- Receiver Volume Adjustment: Inspect the rotary Volume Control knob on the receiver front panel. Rotate the knob clockwise to increase output level towards the amplifier.
- Amplifier Gain and Routing: Ensure the corresponding input channel on the connected Ahuja or third-party amplifier is unmuted, properly assigned, and that master gain controls are active.
Audio Distortion, Low Output, or Static Noise
If audio reproduced by the dynamic cardioid capsule exhibits high harmonic distortion or background noise exceeding normal operating limits (THD < 0.5%, SNR > 80 dB):
- Input Clipping: If the signal sounds distorted at high speech levels, lower the receiver front-panel volume knob or reduce input channel gain on the amplifier to prevent preamplifier stage overdrive.
- Weak Carrier / Static Hiss: Elevated background hiss or static dropouts indicate weak RF reception. Fully extend the receiver telescopic antenna and replace the 2 x 1.5V AA pencil cells (they are not included) in the transmitter.
- Acoustic Feedback: Because the dynamic capsule has a cardioid directional polar pattern, ensure the microphone is positioned behind or off-axis from front-of-house PA speakers to avoid acoustic feedback loops.
