Installation, Placement, and Safety Guidelines for KTI 6.5 Kg Rubber Wheel Chocks

Pre-Deployment Safety and Vehicle Preparation

Before deploying the KTI 6.5 Kg Truck Wheel Chock (SKU: KTI16031001RUB6), ensure the commercial vehicle, prime mover, or multi-axle freight carrier is fully stopped at its designated bay or staging position. The driver or terminal operator must fully engage the vehicle parking brake system and switch off the ignition before ground personnel approach the wheel assemblies. Verifying that the vehicle's air brake or mechanical parking brake is set ensures the vehicle remains completely static during manual chock installation.

Surface Inspection and Ground Interface

Inspect the ground surface directly adjacent to and underneath the tires. The 6.5 kg molded solid rubber chock provides optimal friction on solid, uniform surfaces such as cured concrete loading aprons, asphalt pavements, and compacted industrial yard surfaces. Clear away large accumulations of industrial grease, loose gravel, thick mud, or surface ice before seating the chock, as uncompacted debris or low-friction residues between the rubber base and the ground can impair wedge grip under heavy thrust.

Manual Placement and Alignment Procedure

Positioning the chock requires aligning the curved wedge profile flush against the center of the tire tread. Follow these step-by-step positioning protocols:

  • Determine Roll Direction: Identify the gradient of the staging yard or loading dock. If parked on a slope, place the chock on the downhill side of the wheel. On level dock bays, place chocks according to facility docking safety rules to prevent movement caused by forklift entry forces.
  • Utilize the Integrated Rope Handle: Hold the chock solely by the integrated nylon/poly rope handle. Slide and position the unit directly under the tire radius. This keeps the operator's hands, wrists, and fingers completely clear of the tire travel path and pinch points.
  • Establish Flush Contact: Push the 290 mm (L) x 190 mm (W) x 250 mm (H) rubber wedge firmly against the outer curvature of the tire. The contoured high-traction face must make square, centered contact across the tread width without angling or offset.

Dual Chocking and Multi-Axle Configuration

For comprehensive stationary safety in logistics hubs and freight distribution bays, deployment in paired configurations is standard operating practice. To prevent two-way rollback during aggressive cargo loading operations, position one chock against the forward face of the tire and a second unit against the rear face on the same wheel assembly, or chock the corresponding wheels across the same drive axle.

Post-Operation Retrieval Sequence

Once freight transfer, yard inspection, or maintenance procedures are complete, verify that the vehicle parking brake remains fully locked. Grasp the integrated nylon/poly rope handle to pull the 6.5 kg wedge straight back from the tire face. Store the chock in an assigned staging bracket or dock cradle. Never leave chocks lying loose in drive lanes or under the chassis line where the pull rope or rubber body could be overrun during vehicle departure.
