Pre-Deployment Vehicle Preparation
Before positioning the KTI Truck Wheel Chock 10.5 Kg (SKU: KTI16031001HE10), the target commercial vehicle or trailer must be brought to a complete stop at the designated loading dock, freight yard bay, or workshop service lane. The operator or logistics personnel must confirm that the vehicle parking brake system is fully engaged prior to deploying wheel immobilisation equipment.
Manual Positioning and Orientation Procedures
The KTI heavy-duty moulded rubber chock requires manual positioning directly onto the ground surface. For standard dock operations, maintenance bays, and parking yards, implement the following placement steps:
- Assess the Grade: Determine the direction of the vehicle roll or yard slope. On flat loading bays, position chocks against the roll direction relative to loading dock impact forces. On sloped ground, chocks must be placed on the downhill side of the tyre.
- Flush Tyre Alignment: Place the curved profile of the 240 mm high chock firmly and squarely against the center of the tyre tread surface. Push the chock beneath the tyre radius until it makes snug, continuous contact with the rubber tread.
- Axle Placement: For heavy commercial trucks and articulated trailers, position the chocks directly against the rear-most drive or trailer axle tyres to maximise immobilisation stability during loading and unloading activities.
Ground Surface Considerations
The moulded rubber base of the 10.50 kg chock provides traction by gripping the ground substrate under vehicle load. To avoid reduced surface friction, observe the following site conditions:
- Surface Contaminants: Avoid placing the chock directly over patches of spilled industrial oil, dense grease, mud, loose gravel, or ice, as these contaminants reduce the friction coefficient against the pavement.
- Pavement Contact: Ensure the entire 355 mm length and 200 mm width of the chock base rests flat on solid asphalt, concrete, or compacted industrial flooring without bridging across voids or deep floor drains.
Post-Placement Verification
Inspect the installed chock to verify there is no gap between the tyre circumference and the chock face. Inadequate contact reduces immobilisation effectiveness. Once loading, unloading, or repair work is finished, manually extract the 10.50 kg chock, verify the area is clear of personnel and tools, and return the chock to its designated yard or bay storage area.
