Installation and Commissioning Guidelines

Proper deployment of the Sivananda single-lane retractable flap barrier (KT SKU: KTI02008004FTSS) ensures structural stability, rapid flap response, and reliable pedestrian access control. A standard single-lane setup comprises two stainless steel housing units positioned opposite each other to form a 520 mm clear passage walkway, creating an overall installed system width of 1120 mm and a cabinet height of 1000 mm.

Site Preparation and Flooring Requirements

Site engineering must confirm civil readiness before positioning the barrier cabinets. The barrier requires mounting on a structurally sound, finished, and perfectly leveled concrete floor with a minimum thickness of 200 mm. Floor levelness is critical to prevent misalignment of the acrylic flap wings during high-speed retraction and closure cycles.

Subsurface cable routing requires a 100 mm x 100 mm floor trench constructed between the two barrier housings in accordance with engineering layout drawings. This trench accommodates the interconnecting electrical harnesses and system control cabling beneath the 520 mm walkway without obstructing pedestrian movement.

Mechanical Anchoring and Cabinet Mounting

The single-lane assembly requires the rigid physical anchoring of both housings to handle continuous pedestrian throughput of up to 20 persons per minute:

  • Position the two stainless steel barrier housings across the lane opening, confirming an exact 520 mm passage width clearance.
  • Verify horizontal and vertical cabinet alignment across both axes using a precision spirit level before marking anchor positions.
  • Fasten the housings directly into the 200 mm concrete slab using the 10 foundation bolts provided for the dual-housing setup.
  • Torque all foundation bolts securely to ensure zero structural play, preserving mechanical alignment for the brushless DC motor drive assemblies.
  • Ensure the transparent acrylic flap panels operate with unobstructed clearance into the cabinet retraction pockets.

Power Infrastructure and Electrical Connections

Electrical feeds must be routed to the barrier's primary power input terminal block via grounded conduit:

  • Input Mains Voltage: Supply single-phase 230 V AC mains utility power directly to the primary power supply module.
  • Internal Operating Voltage: The system step-down converts input power to 24 V DC to drive the internal control circuitry and brushless DC motor drive.
  • Load Requirements: Ensure circuit sizing accounts for a nominal power consumption of 75 W, with peak demand reaching 100 W during active 0.5-second wing cycles.
  • Environmental Operating Range: Confirm installation environment maintains ambient operating temperatures between 0°C and +50°C.

Inter-Cabinet and Access Control Wiring

Inter-cabinet synchronization requires running the supplied multi-conductor cables through the 100 mm x 100 mm floor trench. Route the 3-core cable and 14-core cable between the master and slave barrier housings to interlink power, drive timing, and safety sensor lines.

Integrate peripheral access control hardware using the barrier's opto-isolated inputs and outputs. The controller architecture supports field-configurable pulse or potential control modes, enabling direct wiring to:

  • Biometric fingerprint terminals and facial recognition devices.
  • RFID proximity and smart card readers.
  • QR code and barcode validation scanners.
  • Manual supervisory push buttons.

Safety Circuit and Fire Alarm Integration

Connect facility life-safety circuits to the barrier's dedicated emergency trigger input. In the event of a fire alarm trigger or emergency evacuation command, the barrier automatically retracts both acrylic flaps into the stainless steel housings, leaving the 520 mm pedestrian passage completely unobstructed.

Complete final commissioning by testing the integrated IR safety sensors. Verify that passage beams detect trailing users to alert on tailgating attempts, and confirm that pedestrian detection halts flap closing when an obstruction is present within the walkway.
