A mandatory installation protocol is that all charging infrastructure—including base cradles, vehicle wiring rigs, and AC transformers—must be located strictly outside designated hazardous zones. Recharging operations must take place solely in non-hazardous, general-purpose plant areas. Connecting the searchlight to charging interfaces or opening the battery (they are not included) compartment within explosive gas atmospheres invalidates intrinsic safety ratings and violates facility safety compliance.

9416 Deck/Dash Charger Base Mechanical Installation

Permanent mounting within vehicle cabs, apparatus compartments, or industrial control rooms relies on the Pelican 9416 Deck/Dash Charger Base Unit. When positioning the charger base, select a rigid, flat substrate capable of supporting dynamic loads during transit. The bare searchlight weighs 1.4 kg (3 lbs), increasing to 58.2 oz (1,650 g / 1.65 kg) when equipped with batteries (they are not included). Maintain adequate clearance around the base to accommodate the lantern's 8.75-inch (22.2 cm) overall length and allow rapid vertical docking and undocking by maintenance crews.

Secure the 9416 charger base unit directly to the mounting surface using mechanical fasteners tailored to the panel or bulkhead substrate. Ensure the charger orientation keeps the lantern firmly retained in the dock during vehicular movement. The searchlight housing, constructed from anti-static impact modified PC/PBT resin with an anti-static coated polycarbonate (PC) lens, is engineered to seat into the base without placing mechanical strain on the housing or the EPDM elastomer weather-sealing O-ring.

Electrical Integration: Vehicle Rigging & AC Mains Wiring

Electrical power connection to the 9416 charging base is carried out via dedicated Pelican auxiliary hardware according to facility or vehicle infrastructure requirements:

• Direct Vehicle Hardwiring: Integrate the optional 6061F Direct Wiring Rig for Fast Charger to supply steady power directly from the vehicle’s primary electrical bus. Run the wiring harness through appropriate circuit-protected leads away from moving machinery or intense heat sources.
• 12V DC Vehicle Auxiliary Socket: For rapid apparatus deployment without direct vehicle splicing, connect the charger base using the optional 8056F 12V auxiliary plug-in power cable adapter.
• Fixed Facility AC Power: In onshore workshops, chemical maintenance shops, or utility staging depots, power the 9416 charger base via the optional 6058H 220V AC UK mains transformer to deliver proper input potential to the 4.8V DC charging electronics.

Power System Commissioning & Battery Integration

The internal electrical system operates at 4.8V DC and requires 4 C-size NiMH rechargeable cells (they are not included) or the dedicated Pelican 9418Z0 replacement NiMH battery (they are not included) pack. Installing non-specified, unapproved, or non-rechargeable battery (they are not included) chemistries automatically invalidates the unit's ATEX and IECEx certifications. When installing the battery (they are not included) pack, inspect the EPDM O-ring to ensure proper compression along the perimeter of the anti-static High Visibility Yellow body, maintaining the unit's IPX4 water ingress protection.

Before initial field deployment, perform an uninterrupted full charge cycle lasting 15 hours. Monitor the integrated RGB LED battery (they are not included) charge level status indicator located on the searchlight to verify charging state continuity and confirm that the lantern is fully operational before entering hazardous environments.
