Substrate Preparation and Alignment

The KTI KTI16007002R30T Pillar Corner Guard is engineered for direct surface installation onto 90-degree square and rectangular structural columns. Before mounting, ensure the contact surface—whether cast concrete, masonry, or structural steel pillar edges—is structurally sound, level, and thoroughly cleaned. Debris, oil, grease, moisture, and loose substrate material must be cleared to allow flush alignment across the full 1000 mm length and 200 mm width profile of the guard.

Substrate integrity is essential for durable impact resistance. Inspect concrete or masonry pillars for spalling, micro-fractures, or unreinforced sections. Anchoring into degraded concrete can lead to fastener loosening or anchor tear-out during heavy physical kinetic impacts from passenger vehicles, delivery vans, or forklifts in multi-level parking garages and logistics pathways.

Mechanical Fastening and Anchor Bolt Execution

Mechanical anchoring via heavy-duty anchor bolts is the standard mounting method for solid molded rubber guards in high-traffic commercial and industrial environments. The 5.2 kg rubber profile features pre-formed mounting apertures along its contact flanges to facilitate precision alignment and rigid fastening.

  • Positioning: Position the 1000 mm curved bullnose profile along the pillar corner at the desired vehicle impact height, ensuring standard elevation for drive aisles, basement ramps, or loading zones.
  • Hole Marking: Mark the drilling locations on the pillar substrate directly through the pre-drilled/punched mounting apertures.
  • Substrate Drilling: Drill mounting holes into the concrete, masonry, or structural steel substrate matching the specified anchor bolt diameter. Clear all concrete dust and masonry debris from the bored holes.
  • Fastener Tightening: Insert the anchor bolts through the 30 mm thick molded rubber apertures into the drilled holes and torque securely to achieve full mechanical compression without distorting the rubber compound.

Structural Adhesive Bonding Protocols

For applications where drilling into the column is prohibited, or to supplement mechanical anchoring in high-vibration logistics facilities, structural adhesive bonding can be utilized. The broad 200 mm contact face of the KTI solid rubber profile provides substantial surface area for bonding agents.

Apply high-strength, elastomeric structural adhesive evenly along the interior bonding faces of the rubber guard. Press the unit firmly against the clean 90-degree structural column edge, ensuring full surface contact along the entire 1000 mm profile. Temporary bracing or clamping straps should be used until the adhesive manufacturer’s full cure time has elapsed before exposing the guard to vehicle traffic.

Commissioning and Post-Impact Inspection

Following installation, conduct a physical verification check across all anchor points. The round shape bullnose profile should project uniformly from the pillar edge with zero gap between the rubber backing and the column surface. Establish a periodic inspection schedule to verify anchor bolt tightness and assess rubber deflection following any direct vehicle collisions. The rubber compound can be cleaned during routine maintenance with water and neutral industrial cleaning agents.
