Mounting and Installation Guidelines for KTI EPDM Corner Guards

Substrate Preparation and Surface Alignment

The KTI EPDM Pillar and Corner Guard Yellow (SKU: KTI16007002EPDM_YELLOW) is engineered for direct installation onto 90-degree structural edges. Compatible substrate profiles include poured concrete, structural masonry blockwork, steel columns, and cured plastered pillars. Before initiating installation in parking facilities, warehouse distribution hubs, or loading zones, ensure that the substrate surface is completely structurally sound, dry, and free of loose particulate matter, efflorescence, oil, or grease.

For optimal impact mitigation against light vehicles, forklifts, and hand trolleys, establish the appropriate vertical mounting datum. Positioning the 800 mm x 75 mm x 725 mm guard at wheel-hub, bumper, or pallet-load height ensures that the 8 mm thick EPDM rubber cross-section absorbs contact energy effectively. Mark the target vertical and horizontal datum lines on the pillar corner using a spirit level or laser line before securing the guard.

Mechanical Fastener Installation Method

Mechanical anchoring is recommended for high-impact zones, outdoor pillars, and rough masonry or concrete infrastructure. To install using mechanical fasteners:

  • Dry-Fitting: Align the yellow EPDM profile against the designated 90-degree corner at the pre-marked height.
  • Pilot Hole Marking: Mark fastener drill points along both structural flanges through the guard body, ensuring even vertical spacing across the unit profile to prevent material buckling.
  • Substrate Drilling: Set the corner guard aside. Drill pilot holes into the concrete, masonry, or steel substrate to match the diameter and embedment depth of your selected heavy-duty screws or expansion wall plugs.
  • Affixing the Unit: Realign the 1 kg EPDM profile with the drilled holes. Drive the mechanical screws with flat washers through the rubber until flush against the exterior surface, ensuring firm clamping without over-torquing or compressing the 8 mm rubber material.

Industrial Contact Adhesive Installation Method

Where structural substrates—such as finished plaster, structural steel flanges, or precast concrete—preclude drilling, industrial contact adhesives provide an alternative mounting method:

  • Surface Degreasing: Clean both the column substrate and the inner mating face of the EPDM guard using an industrial degreaser to remove mold-release residues and surface contaminants.
  • Adhesive Application: Apply a continuous bead or uniform layer of heavy-duty industrial contact adhesive to the internal corner angle and lateral flanges of the guard profile.
  • Mounting and Curing: Press the guard firmly against the 90-degree substrate edge, applying consistent pressure from top to bottom to eliminate air pockets. Secure the unit in position using temporary industrial masking or clamping tape until the adhesive achieves full structural bonding per the adhesive manufacturer's cure schedule.

Post-Installation Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the installed guard along its lateral edges to confirm that the profile sits flush against the pillar without gaps. The weather- and ozone-resistant EPDM rubber formulation allows immediate operational commissioning in indoor, basement, or exposed outdoor environments. For ongoing maintenance in industrial and traffic areas, wash down the high-visibility yellow surface periodically using clean water and standard mild industrial detergents to maintain visual clarity.
