Pre-Installation Surface Preparation and Layout Planning
Proper surface preparation is critical to achieving a secure, long-term installation of the KTI 1.5” x 2.5” Transparent Bird Spike modules. Before mounting, ensure the target substrate—whether masonry, concrete, structural steel, timber, metal sheeting, composite panels, or glass—is completely clean, dry, and free of dirt, avian droppings, peeling paint, oil, and loose debris. Thoroughly degreasing and scrubbing the mounting line ensures optimal adhesion and secure mechanical seating.
Measure the linear perimeter to be protected. KTI transparent bird spikes are supplied in modular units where 4 individual pieces constitute 1 running foot (1 No. = 1 Feet). Layout the modules along the edge of the ledge, parapet, window sill, railing, or structural truss before securing them to confirm proper alignment and identify any points where modular strips need to be split or joined to match custom run lengths.
Fastening Methods and Execution
The 100% metal-free, weather-resistant rigid plastic base accommodates three primary industrial installation techniques depending on the substrate material and environmental exposure:
- Screw Fastening (Mechanical Anchor): Recommended for masonry, concrete, brickwork, wood, and heavy timber. Position the modular base directly against the surface and drive corrosion-resistant screws through the pre-formed base attachment points into pre-drilled holes or plastic wall plugs. For sheet metal or structural beams, self-tapping screws can be utilized.
- Industrial Adhesive & Double-Sided Tape Bonding: For non-penetrative mounting on glass, composite cladding, coping stones, AC outdoor unit housings, awnings, and signboards, apply an industrial-grade outdoor construction glue or outdoor double-sided tape (available separately) along the underside of each base strip. Press firmly into place until full surface contact is achieved.
- Cable Tie & Tie-Down Fastening: Ideal for round pipes, conduit runs, scaffolding, overhead trusses, and boundary railings. Secure each plastic spike strip using heavy-duty, weather-resistant cable ties looped through the base sections and cinched tightly around the structural fixture.

Modular Sizing, Post-Installation Inspection & Maintenance
The compact 1.5” by 2.5” profile is engineered to accommodate narrow structural crowns without overhang. When encountering corners, architectural angles, or irregular terminations, snap or cut the plastic base between module segments to fit exact dimensions without compromising the structural integrity of neighboring spikes.
Following installation, conduct a tactile check along the entire linear run to verify that all 4 pieces per running foot are rigidly fixed without play or gaps. Once securely anchored, the corrosion-resistant, weather-resistant plastic assembly requires minimal to no ongoing maintenance, providing durable physical deterrence against roosting birds, climbing animals, and perimeter intrusion.
