Installation Guide & Mounting Procedures for KTI 1.5” x 2.5” Grey Polycarbonate Bird Spikes

Proper installation of the KTI 1.5” x 2.5” Grey Polycarbonate Bird Spike (SKU: KTI100040011525_GREY) ensures comprehensive physical exclusion against target pests, including pigeons, crows, starlings, blackbirds, grackles, gulls, sparrows, swallows, and bats across commercial and industrial infrastructure. The modular 50-gram polycarbonate base strips are engineered for rapid deployment across flat masonry, metal profiles, wood framework, and rounded structural elements.

Pre-Installation Surface Preparation

Effective adhesion and mechanical fastening require thorough substrate preparation. Before mounting bird spikes on ledges, roof perimeters, beams, rafters, or window air conditioners, inspect and clean the contact surface:

  • Debris Removal: Clear all nesting debris, bird droppings, dirt, organic matter, and peeling paint from the installation footprint.
  • Surface Decontamination: Disinfect and degrease the area to eliminate pathogen build-up and guarantee optimal bond strength for adhesives.
  • Moisture Check: Ensure masonry, concrete, stone, or metal substrates are completely dry before applying construction adhesives or sealants.

Fastening and Mounting Methods

The rigid polycarbonate base allows multiple mounting techniques depending on the substrate material and architectural geometry of the facility:

  • Industrial Adhesive or Silicone Glue: For flat ledges, parapets, sheet metal, architectural facades, gutters, awnings, and window sills in commercial offices, shopping malls, and healthcare facilities. Apply a continuous bead of industrial silicone glue or construction-grade polyurethane mastic along the underside of the polycarbonate base. Press firmly to ensure adhesive extrudes through any built-in base perforations to form a mechanical rivet lock.
  • Mechanical Fasteners (Screws or Nails): Recommended for timber rafters, wooden beams, agricultural framing, and expansion anchors in solid concrete. Drive corrosion-resistant screws or nails through the pre-formed mounting holes in the polycarbonate base directly into the substrate.
  • Zip Ties and Tie-Down Straps: For round structural members, overhead conduit, industrial piping, light fixtures, structural poles, trusses, and railings in factories, warehouses, and transport terminals (airports, railway, and bus stations). Wrap heavy-duty UV-resistant cable ties or tie-downs securely around the base and host structure.

Layout, Density, and Coverage Configuration

Achieving total anti-roosting protection requires strict adherence to spatial spacing specifications:

Configuration ParameterSpecificationApplication Detail
Strip Density4 pieces per running footEnsures continuous mechanical barrier without roosting gaps
Unit Dimensions1.5 inches x 2.5 inchesEngineered barrier profile for narrow and medium ledges
Unit Weight0.05 kg (50 g)Ultralight profile minimizing dead load on suspended structures
Linear Coverage1 unit per approx. 1 foot areaModular end-to-end alignment across continuous architectural runs

To eliminate potential landing perimeters, install the outer row of spikes with a slight overhang beyond the leading edge of the ledge, beam, or sign. On wide ledges, install parallel rows running the length of the perimeter to prevent birds and small climbing animals from bypassing the barrier.

Post-Installation and Maintenance

Once securely adhered, screwed, nailed, or strapped in place, the durable polycarbonate construction provides an enduring physical deterrent. KTI bird spikes require zero to minimal routine maintenance under standard environmental operating conditions. Periodic visual inspections during standard facility maintenance cycles are recommended to confirm that mounting adhesive or mechanical ties remain securely anchored to the host structures.
