Installation and Commissioning Guide for Hope 700249 Door Frame Metal Detector

Site Selection and Environmental Requirements

Proper physical site selection is critical to ensure optimal throughput and false-alarm-free detection for the Hope Model 700249 walk-through metal detector. The screening area must provide adequate clearance for the unit's external frame footprint of 2200 mm (H) x 850 mm (W) x 340 mm (L), maintaining an unobstructed passage clearance of 2000 mm (H) x 720 mm (W) x 340 mm (L).

To eliminate background electronic interference, position the detector away from high-power electromagnetic sources such as electrical distribution transformers, heavy industrial motors, and zones subject to severe mechanical floor vibration. The unit is engineered to operate reliably across an ambient temperature range of -20°C to 85°C and relative humidity levels up to 99% non-condensing, allowing deployment across travel transit checkpoints, factories, power plants, courthouses, and stadiums.

Mechanical Assembly and Floor Anchoring

The Hope 700249 utilizes high-strength synthetic materials to maintain structural rigidity while retaining a light net weight of 30 kg for ease of handling and physical assembly. Unpack the primary modular sub-assemblies: the left door panel, the right door panel, the cross beam, and the control unit box.

  • Frame Assembly: Position the left and right door panels vertically and align the cross beam and control unit box between the side panels according to the manual diagram.
  • Fastener Securing: Insert and securely tighten the mechanical assembly screws to ensure the archway structure remains plumb and square.
  • Ground Anchoring: To avoid false alarms caused by mechanical sway or physical transit contact, the walk-through detector must be firmly fixed and anchored to the floor surface. Rigid floor fixation stabilizes detection coils and ensures repeatable detection field geometry.

Electrical Connections and Inter-Panel Wiring

Prior to applying power, establish inter-panel communication and signal wiring between the sub-assemblies:

  • Detection Wiring: Connect the multi-conductor detection wiring harness from the control unit box to the corresponding connectors located on both the left and right door panels. Ensure all push-in terminal connectors are firmly seated.
  • Mains Power Connection: Connect the supplied power wire to an electrical source rated for AC 100 V – 240 V at 50 Hz – 60 Hz. The internal power converter steps down power to a rated output of DC 12 V / 4.2 A (12 W power consumption).

Multi-Unit Side-by-Side Co-Location

When screening checkpoints require high transit capacity, multiple Hope walk-through detectors can be installed side by side to sustain the rated throughput of at least 90 persons per minute per lane. Adjacent units produce overlapping electromagnetic fields that can induce mutual interference if configured identically.

To operate multiple units concurrently without cross-talk, adjust each archway to a distinct operating channel frequency. The integrated microcontroller allows operational frequency levels to be configured manually or automatically across a 0 to 50 index range, effectively isolating adjacent screening channels.

Commissioning, Sensitivity, and Flow Calibration

Following mechanical anchoring and power-up, configure operational parameters via the onboard keypad:

  • Security Level Setting: Calibrate the baseline security threshold across the adjustable 0 to 200 security range to match local site screening directives.
  • Zone Sensitivity Balancing: Calibrate individual zone sensitivity independently from 0 to 400 across all 9 detection zones (3 left, 3 right, and 3 virtual zones) to compensate for surrounding stationary metals.
  • Visual and Traffic Indicators: Confirm illumination and alignment of the LED light bars located on both door panels to verify accurate pinpointing of target zones during test walk-throughs. Verify that the WALK-STOP transit indicators cycle correctly to regulate pedestrian traffic flow.
  • Counter Verification: Confirm that the automated bidirectional transit traffic and alarm counters increment accurately up to the maximum count of 9999.
