Host Interface and Data Communication Protocols

The Honeywell Youjie YJ5900 omnidirectional presentation scanner provides flexible point-of-sale (POS) and industrial host integration via dual modular interface options. It natively supports standard USB and RS232 Serial interface cabling. For direct plug-and-play desktop computing and terminal integration, the scanner operates in USB Keyboard Emulation mode, converting decoded data into standard keystrokes without requiring proprietary driver stacks. For dedicated point-of-sale architectures, legacy controllers, and industrial terminals requiring two-way serial data flow, RS232 serial communication can be enabled directly via configuration programming barcodes.

During physical interface deployment, host terminal hardware must be powered off prior to seating the modular interface cable, followed by powering up the host once connection is confirmed. When reconfiguring or servicing interface cabling, the scanner utilizes an internal locking mechanism where the modular cable release must be engaged prior to releasing internal retention pins.

Barcode Symbology and Optical Decoding Profile

The YJ5900 is engineered with an omnidirectional 20-line laser pattern arranged across 5 fields of 4 lines each, operating at 1650 scan lines per second. It provides universal decoding compatibility across all standard 1D linear barcode symbologies. The optical receiver requires a minimum reflection difference of 35% print contrast and resolves narrow elements down to a minimum resolution of 5 mil (0.125 mm).

Barcode Density / Narrow Element Supported Depth of Field (Working Range)
5.0 mil (0.125 mm) 50 mm – 100 mm
7.5 mil 40 mm – 185 mm
10.4 mil 20 mm – 260 mm
13.0 mil 20 mm – 310 mm

Electrical Ratings and Power Source Requirements

The YJ5900 operates from a nominal 5 VDC ± 0.5 V supply input. When powered through an auxiliary power line or external source, it accepts power from Class 2 DC transformers rated at 5.2 VDC at 1 A. Operating power draw under typical scanning conditions is 1.4 W (275 mA at 5 V), while standby power consumption drops to 1.2 W (230 mA at 5 V). The unit features an integrated sleep mode with infrared (IR) object detection that reduces standby energy consumption and activates the laser array when media is presented.

Physical and Environmental Countertop Deployment

Designed for compact presentation checkouts, convenience counters, and pharmaceutical workstations, the scanner occupies a footprint of 87 mm in length, 98 mm in width, and 170 mm in height, with a base weight of 382 g. It is rated to withstand physical drops onto hard surfaces from heights up to 1 meter and can be mounted onto workstations or countertops.

The internal optical sensor operates reliably under ambient lighting levels up to 4842 Lux (450 foot-candles). The hardware operates across an ambient temperature range of -20°C to 40°C and supports non-condensing relative humidity levels between 5% and 95%. For regulatory and workplace compliance, the laser module adheres to IEC 60825-1 Class 2 radiation limits (650 nm ± 10 nm visible laser diode), CE marking, EN 55022 Class A electromagnetic compatibility regulations, IEC 60950-1 electrical safety, and IEC 62471 photobiological standards.
