Mechanical Enclosure and Mounting Specifications
The Honeywell Morley-IAS ZXr-A (part number 709-601-001) active repeater panel is engineered for remote supervisory deployment across facility checkpoints, including security control rooms, nurse stations, and primary building entry points. The unit features an enclosure measuring 165 mm in height, 254 mm in width, and 50 mm in depth, with a total weight of approximately 1.7 kg. For semi-flush wall presentations, the unit can be fitted using the optional bezel kit (part number 002-600-002).
Installation must be executed within indoor operating environments maintained between +5°C and +45°C, with a relative humidity level ranging from 5% to 95% non-condensing. Physical placement should ensure unhindered visibility of the 80-character backlit alphanumeric liquid crystal display and unobstructed access to the integral key-operated Access Enable keyswitch.
Power Supply Requirements and Field Wiring
The ZXr-A repeater operates over an input voltage window of 18 Vdc to 32 Vdc, with a nominal operating level of +24 Vdc. Operational current demands are rated at 90 mA in quiescent condition and increase to 120 mA during an active alarm state. Power wiring can be sourced directly from the auxiliary DC power output terminals of the main Morley-IAS intelligent fire alarm control panel, or supplied by a dedicated external regulated DC power supply.
Field wiring terminations are made directly to the internal terminal strip. The terminal connectors accept solid or stranded conductors up to a maximum cable cross section of 2.5 mm². Installers must size DC supply conductors to maintain voltage levels within the specified 18 Vdc to 32 Vdc range under maximum alarm load conditions (120 mA per active panel).
RS485 Peripheral Data Bus Architecture
Communication between the ZXr-A active repeater and the fire alarm system is established over the Morley-IAS RS485 peripheral data port. In installations requiring dedicated bus interface hardware at the panel, the RS485 communication module (part number 795-004-001) is integrated into the host control unit. The network architecture supports multi-drop bus topologies accommodating a maximum of 31 active repeaters on a single peripheral data channel.
The host ZX series fire alarm control panel actively supervises the physical RS485 data cabling link. If data transmission is interrupted or cable integrity is compromised, a peripheral fault is immediately registered at both the main control panel and the repeater. On the ZXr-A, loss of communication illuminates the dedicated Communications Loss yellow LED status indicator.
Commissioning and Built-In Diagnostics
Once power and RS485 data connections are terminated, system commissioning is completed using the built-in diagnostic routines. The repeater is fitted with a key-operated Access Enable switch (spare keyswitch and keys available under part number 020-835) that restricts active control functions to authorized personnel.
The ZXr-A incorporates an integral operator-initiated self-test sequence. Initiating this routine guides commissioning engineers through a preset diagnostic procedure to systematically verify:
- Physical operation of the active control push buttons (System Reset, Accept, Mute, and Silence Alarms)
- Switch contact integrity of the Access Enable key-switch
- Display clarity across the 80-character backlit alphanumeric liquid crystal display
- Illumination of all 7 individual LED status indicators: Fire, Fault, Disables, Accepted, Silenced, Power, and Communications Loss
