FAQ

On what electrical systems can the Honeywell IN20817 be applied, and what are its operational limitations?

Answer:
The Honeywell IN20817 is designed for residual static dissipation on de-energized lines and equipment operating up to 110 kV (including 11 kV, 22 kV, 33 kV, 45 kV, and 65 kV). It is strictly a static discharge tool after circuit isolation and carries no fault-duty rating under OSHA 1910.269.

The Honeywell IN20817 discharge stick is engineered to safely bleed off trapped capacitive and static charges from electrical apparatus after complete de-energization and lockout/tagout procedures:

  • System Compatibility: Suitable for high-voltage industrial installations, switchgear, busbars, power transformers, and transmission systems up to 110 kV.
  • Typical Discharge Duration: static bleed off generally takes between 5 to 60 seconds depending on circuit capacitance; zero energy state must be confirmed using a non-contact voltage detector.
  • OSHA 1910.269 Compliance Notice: Discharge sticks are not temporary protective grounding equipment as defined under OSHA 1910.269. They carry no fault-current duty rating and must never be applied to live, energized conductors or used as a substitute for short-circuit grounding clusters.
  • Connection Sequence: The heavy-duty 600 V jaw clamp must always be secured to a verified ground bus before the copper hook contacts de-energized conductors.
