Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-PSE-AP Installation & Commissioning Guide

Proper field installation of the Honeywell Morley-IAS HM-PSE-AP analog addressable photoelectric smoke detector is essential for ensuring compliant life safety performance across commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. The unit is designed for rapid mechanical mounting and straightforward termination into compatible addressable fire alarm loop infrastructures.

Base Compatibility and Mechanical Mounting

The HM-PSE-AP optical smoke detector head mounts directly into standard Honeywell System Sensor and Morley-IAS B501AP series bases, including the B501AP-IV base and the SMK400AP-IV deep mounting base for surface-conduit applications. When fully mated into the B501AP base, the overall assembly presents a compact physical profile with an overall height of 52 mm and a diameter of 102 mm. The detector body is constructed from flame-retardant white PC/ABS (polycarbonate / acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) thermoplastic, bringing the total assembly weight to 97 g (catalog shipping weight specified at 0.12 kg).

During field placement, orient the detector base so that the dual integrated LEDs remain visible across the room. The dual-LED arrangement provides an omnidirectional 360-degree visual view of operational status and alarm indications once the detector head is rotated and locked into the mounting base.

Field Wiring and Electrical Terminations

Loop wiring connects to the heavy-duty screw terminals located on the matching mounting base rather than the detector head itself, protecting internal circuit boards during pulling and rough-in stages. The base terminals accommodate solid or stranded copper conductors up to a maximum wire gauge cross-section of 2.5 mm².

  • Operating Voltage Range: 15 to 32 VDC peak over the signaling line circuit (SLC).
  • Quiescent Standby Current: 260 µA at 24 VDC without communication polling; 310 µA at 24 VDC when the 5-second LED blink mode is active.
  • Alarm Current: Maximum 3.5 mA at 24 VDC dedicated to the onboard dual alarm LEDs.
  • Remote Output Capabilities: Remote annunciator terminals provide 22.5 VDC at 24 VDC with a maximum load current of 10.8 mA.

Rotary Decade Decimal Addressing

Address configuration on the HM-PSE-AP is executed prior to base insertion using dual mechanical rotary decade switches located on the detector housing. These switches allow field technicians to set decimal addresses quickly without needing specialized handheld programming tools or software dongles:

  • Switch Adjustment: Set the tens dial and units dial to correspond directly to the planned loop address.
  • Address Range: Supports decimal addresses from 01 to 159 under Honeywell Morley-IAS Advanced Protocol communication.
  • Panel Compatibility: Fully compatible with intelligent fire alarm control panels, including the Morley-IAS DXc series (revisions R7, R8, and R9).

Environmental and Commissioning Considerations

The HM-PSE-AP operates reliably across an extended ambient temperature range of -30°C to +70°C and can withstand non-condensing relative humidity levels between 10% and 93%. It conforms to European standard EN 54-7 (EN54-7:2000 + A1:2002 + A2:2006) and holds third-party LPCB certification.

The optical sensing chamber incorporates an aerodynamic entry structure, an insect-resistant mesh, a washable chamber filter, and onboard smoothing filter algorithms. To prevent premature contamination or spurious loop events during building construction, do not expose the detector to heavy sanding or concrete dust prior to commissioning.
