Installation, Wiring Connection, and Setup Guide

The GST P-9910B handheld programmer serves as a portable commissioning and addressing tool for GST intelligent addressable fire detection networks. Proper physical setup and field terminal interconnection ensure rapid configuration of field detectors, input/output interfaces, sounders, and auxiliary modules before or during loop integration.

Power Supply and Battery Installation

The unit requires power from a single 9V laminated battery (they are not included). To install the battery, remove the compartment cover on the reverse side of the 164 mm x 64 mm x 24 mm housing. Connect the 9V terminal snap firmly to the battery terminals, position the battery securely in the internal recess, and snap the cover back into place.

During field operation, the tool draws an operating current of ≤8 mA and a standby current of ≤100 μA. It incorporates an automated low-consumption hibernation and power-saving shutdown feature to extend operating life. If the battery voltage drops below normal operating thresholds, a low-battery voltage warning indicator illuminates on the quadruple digit alphanumeric LCD screen. When this indicator appears, replace the 9V battery (they are not included) immediately to avoid transmission read/write dropouts during loop addressing.

Physical Interconnection and Wiring Leads

The programmer interfaces directly with target field devices using non-polarized 2-wire connection leads. Because the connection is non-polarized, field engineers do not need to observe strict positive or negative polarity orientation on the target device programming terminals.

  • Connect the two programmer test leads directly to the dedicated loop programming contacts or loop terminals of the unpowered device.
  • For standard GST optical smoke, heat, or multi-sensor detectors, attach the test leads directly to the detector terminals or compatible base connections.
  • For modules such as DI-9300E/DI-9301E and manual call points such as DI-9204E, connect the non-polarized leads to the signal loop input terminals.
  • For I2C-compatible devices such as graphic repeater panels or the I-9105/R intelligent reflective beam detector, utilize the compatible multi-wire programming lead interface.

Commissioning and Parameter Setup Workflow

The P-9910B writes electronic addresses ranging from 1 to 242 into the non-volatile memory of loop devices. The commissioning sequence should be performed as follows:

  • Ensure the target device is disconnected from any active fire alarm loop powered by GST100, GST200, or GST5000 control panels.
  • Power on the P-9910B handheld programmer and confirm the quadruple digit alphanumeric LCD displays clear operational readouts.
  • Input the target loop address (between 1 and 242) using the keypad and initiate the write sequence to transfer the address to the device.
  • Execute the read function to verify that the target detector or module returns the identical configured address.
  • For input modules, configure input contact parameters between normally open (N/O) and normally closed (N/C) modes as specified in the site design.
  • For addressable thermal and optical sensors, configure alarm sensitivity thresholds and rate-of-rise dual heat detector functions as dictated by the engineering schedule.

Environmental and Handling Precautions

Field programming must be conducted within ambient temperature conditions of -10°C to +50°C and a relative humidity not exceeding 95% non-condensing. When placing the tool in storage or when it will remain unused for extended periods, remove the 9V battery (they are not included) to prevent internal terminal corrosion.
