Installation and Deployment Guide for Frontier Barricador 1500

Deploying the Frontier Barricador 1500 (SKU: FRBBD1500RD) on municipal roadways, construction sites, and perimeter segregation zones requires no heavy plant equipment or specialized lifting machinery. Engineered from lightweight, high-impact resistant, UV-stabilized polyethylene (PE), each modular barrier can be unloaded, transported, and positioned manually by a two-person crew. This allows rapid site setup during active traffic diversions and fast-moving work-zone operations.

Pre-Placement Layout and Manual Handling

Before positioning the units, survey the designated boundary path to ensure the deployment route is clear of severe debris or structural obstructions. The lightweight construction of the unballasted hollow shell allows two workers to lift and set down each 1525 mm long by 400 mm wide unit safely.

Because the unit is manufactured with a smooth exterior finish and has no sharp edges or corners, manual handling risks to field technicians are minimized. Align the units sequentially along the designated corridor, observing whether the setup requires straight delineation or curved boundary segregation around hazardous zones.

Modular 90-Degree Interlocking Configuration

The Frontier Barricador 1500 integrates an end-to-end modular coupling profile designed to deliver a continuous physical barrier:

  • Linear Wall Connection: Align adjacent barrier sections end-to-end to form a continuous 100% wall effect that prevents pedestrian walk-through and clearly channels vehicular traffic away from work zones.
  • Angular Articulation: The integrated connection system permits rotational articulation up to 90 degrees at the joint. This flexibility enables crews to construct sharp corners, curved bypasses, or enclosed perimeter zones without requiring custom adapters or separate corner brackets.
  • Alignment Verification: Ensure each barrier section is securely seated and interlocked with its neighbor before filling with ballast, as adjusting full units is not recommended.

Ballasting Procedure with Water

Once the perimeter layout is fully connected and properly aligned, the units must be stabilized using internal ballast. Each Barricador 1500 unit features an internal cavity designed to hold up to 50 litres of water ballast.

Filling the hollow barrier with water substantially increases ground contact pressure, enabling the boundary line to resist displacement from wind loads and passing vehicle air turbulence. In the event of vehicular impact, the internal water mass absorbs kinetic energy, helping to reduce collision severity, mitigate damage to errant vehicles, and lower the risk of injury to work-zone personnel.

Draining and Relocation Workflow

When project phases shift or temporary traffic diversions conclude, the modular system facilitates efficient decommissioning and multi-project reuse:

  • Controlled Ballast Drainage: Each barrier is equipped with an integrated drain plug located near the base. Remove the plug to quickly evacuate the 50 litres of water ballast under controlled flow without tipping the barrier.
  • Relocation and Transport: After emptying, the unit returns to its unballasted weight, enabling two workers to uncouple the interlocking sections and manually reposition them or stack them for vehicle transport.
  • Surface Maintenance: The smooth, non-fading polyethylene finish resists graffiti and grime adhesion, permitting field personnel to wash down surfaces before storage.
