Industrial and Commercial Application Profiles for the FAAC 844 R 380V MC 3PH

Heavy Industrial Facility Perimeters

The FAAC 844 R 380V MC 3PH electromechanical operator is engineered for demanding perimeter security boundaries across heavy industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, and processing yards. Powered by a 950 W asynchronous three-phase 4-pole electric motor running on a 380–415V~ (3PH+N, 50/60 Hz) supply, the unit delivers up to 62 Nm of maximum output torque through a 1:30 internal reduction ratio. For extra-heavy sliding gates weighing up to 2,200 kg, deployment with a Z12 pinion generates an expressed linear thrust force of 2500 N, ensuring dependable leaf movement even when facing high wind-load resistance or heavy mechanical inertia.

Because the internal mechanical reduction system is completely non-reversing, the gate leaf is locked mechanically whenever the motor is de-energized. This eliminates the operational requirement, wiring complexity, and maintenance overhead of supplementary electric solenoid or magnetic locks on large industrial barriers.

High-Span Commercial Openings and Telescopic Gates

Commercial yards and large distribution depots frequently deploy wide-span or telescopic sliding gate designs to clear oversized transport corridors. The FAAC 844 R 3PH accommodates broad structural openings based on the chosen modular drive rack pinion geometry:

  • Z12 Pinion Configuration: Engineered for maximum mass management up to 2,200 kg across spans up to 30 m at a controlled leaf travel speed of 7.2 m/min.
  • Z16 Pinion Configuration: Designed for intermediate industrial spans up to 40 m and gate leaf weights up to 1,800 kg, providing an increased operating speed of 9.5 m/min and 1900 N thrust force.
  • Z20 Pinion Configuration: Selected for long-span perimeters up to 50 m or lighter sliding/telescopic assemblies up to 1,000 kg, operating at a linear leaf speed of 12 m/min with 1500 N thrust force.

The inductive limit switch system senses travel limits using steel plates mounted along the rack, preventing physical mechanical switch degradation over wide spans where track settling or vibrations might otherwise cause misalignment.

Continuous-Flow Freight Yards and Transport Terminals

With an operational use frequency rating of 70%, the FAAC 844 R 3PH is configured for high-traffic freight checkpoints, cargo distribution yards, and multi-shift transit depots. The transmission and internal mechanical components are housed inside a pressure-cast aluminium body and submersed in a continuous oil bath featuring FAAC HP OIL. This fluid immersion dissipates frictional heat generated during cyclic operation, protecting mechanical gear surfaces from premature wear.

Mechanical anti-crushing safety and dynamic thrust regulation are handled by a twin-disk oil-bath clutch assembly. When integrated with downstream external controllers such as the FAAC 844T control board, Category 3 resistive safety edges, and active photobeams, the gearmotor satisfies EN 12453, EN 12445, EN 12604, and EN 12605 automation safety standards across vehicular transition corridors.

Severe Environmental and Outdoor Deployments

Rated at ingress protection level IP44 and operational across an ambient temperature range from -20°C to +55°C, the unit withstands extreme outdoor yard exposures. The electric motor incorporates a built-in thermal protection switch rated to cut off at 155°C to prevent winding damage during peak continuous cycles. In the event of primary three-phase utility outages or upstream circuit isolation via the required all-pole mains switch, an onboard key-protected manual release lever allows authorized personnel to disengage the drive gearing and operate the gate leaf manually.
