Installation, Terminal Wiring, and Commissioning Guide

Proper integration of the eSSL 3-door microcontroller-based interlocking controller (reference KTI01003001DR03) ensures reliable sequencing across critical cleanroom airlocks, gowning areas, laboratories, and high-security zones. Because this controller operates without onboard event memory, all interlock actions and lock state evaluations are executed autonomously in real time by the microcontroller. Physical installation involves mounting the 0.58 kg electronic controller assembly in a secure enclosure and routing dedicated field wiring for door sensors, input switches or readers, locking hardware, and emergency circuits.

Terminal Interface Allocation

The controller board features dedicated input terminals designated for sequencing inputs across all three managed entry points, as well as an emergency override interface. Ensure that field wiring correctly matches the designated terminal-to-door mapping:

  • SW3 Terminal: Designated input interface for Door 1 switch or card reader.
  • SW2 Terminal: Designated input interface for Door 2 switch or card reader.
  • SW1 Terminal: Designated input interface for Door 3 switch or card reader.
  • EMG Terminal: Dedicated emergency override interface for direct connection to an emergency release switch or break-glass station.

Field Device Wiring and Hardware Interfacing

The system is engineered to interface with standard access peripherals, including push switches, access control card readers, and electromagnetic lock systems. Each door station requires discrete signal lines connected back to the central controller. When connecting request-to-enter or request-to-exit devices at Door 1, Door 2, and Door 3, wire the signal triggers into SW3, SW2, and SW1 respectively.

For electromagnetic lock integration, power and control lines must run through the controller's switching outputs to ensure that releasing one door immediately locks and inhibits the remaining two doors. An integrated buzzer output is provided directly on the unit to supply audible alert and door status signalling during access sequencing and transition cycles.

Emergency Override Circuit Integration

Life safety and emergency evacuation protocols require a fail-safe override. An emergency release push switch or emergency break-glass station must be wired directly to the controller’s EMG terminal. When the emergency switch is triggered, the microcontroller immediately bypasses standard interlock sequencing logic, forcing the release of all connected electromagnetic door locks to allow unimpeded egress across all three doors.

Commissioning and Functional Validation

Once all physical connections to SW1, SW2, SW3, and EMG are completed, conduct systematic functional commissioning prior to handing over the facility:

  • Individual Door Verification: Trigger the switch or reader at Door 1 (SW3). Confirm that Door 1 unlocks while Door 2 (SW2) and Door 3 (SW1) remain locked and ignore all input requests.
  • Interlock Inhibition Check: Repeat the validation sequence for Door 2 and Door 3 in turn, verifying that when any single door is open, the integrated logic inhibits the other two doors from unlocking.
  • Status Signalling Test: Verify that the integrated buzzer sounds appropriately during door transit or alert conditions according to system status.
  • Emergency Release Validation: Depress the emergency switch wired to the EMG terminal to confirm instantaneous release of locks across Door 1, Door 2, and Door 3.
  • Diagnostics: If interlocking sequencing fails or a door fails to lock out other stations, inspect field wiring at terminals SW1, SW2, and SW3 to resolve any open, loose, or disconnected switch/reader feedback lines.
