The Dorset DG 906 (DG 906 GM) is an electronic digital rim lock designed with a narrow vertical form factor for surface-mounted installation. Prior to mounting, verify that the target door leaf meets the standard thickness requirement of 30 mm to 60 mm. The rim-mount architecture avoids the requirement for deep mortise pocket cutouts, making it suitable for solid wooden doors, fabricated metal doors, double door assemblies, and narrow-stile aluminum profiles where internal depth is constrained.
For double-leaf door setups or sliding assemblies (such as DG 906 SL configurations), confirm proper frame-to-leaf clearance to ensure unhindered alignment between the vertical rim lock body and the corresponding strike unit.
Surface-Mount Mechanical Installation
Proper physical alignment is essential for smooth latching and consistent alarm functionality. Follow these core mechanical mounting steps:
- Marking and Template Alignment: Position the mounting template along the interior face of the door stile. Ensure the vertical rim unit clears the frame edge while maintaining latch engagement with the strike plate.
- Through-Hole Drilling: Drill the required cable pass-through and structural fixing holes according to the 30 mm to 60 mm door thickness specifications. Ensure all drilled channels are deburred and free from debris.
- Exterior & Interior Body Fixing: Route the interconnecting harness through the door profile. Secure the exterior keypad and RFID sensor module firmly against the external door face, then fasten the internal mounting bracket and main rim lock chassis to the interior side.
- Strike Assembly Positioning: Fix the surface strike plate onto the door frame or secondary inactive leaf, ensuring accurate horizontal and vertical alignment with the locking bolt.
Power Supply and Emergency Terminal Setup
The Dorset DG 906 operates as a standalone battery-powered access solution requiring no permanent external mains wiring for primary operation.
- Battery Installation: Insert 4 standard 1.5V AA alkaline batteries into the internal battery compartment, observing correct polarity. Avoid mixing depleted and new cells.
- External Backup Check: Inspect the external emergency power supply terminal points located on the exterior unit. These contact points permit temporary power injection via an external power supply if the internal 1.5V AA batteries become fully depleted.
- Low Battery Warning Calibration: Verify that the internal low battery alert sounds properly during standard operational cycles as cell voltage decreases.
System Integration and Access Credential Programming
Once mechanical and electrical installations are complete, configure access modes and system parameters prior to placing the lock into active commercial or residential service.
- Credential Enrollment: Program administrative and user credentials into memory. The DG 906 supports up to 31 unique PIN codes and up to 30 unique RFID smart card users.
- Anti-Theft Scrambling Setup: Validate the fake PIN code password-scrambling function by entering random prefix/suffix digits alongside the active master/user PIN.
- Operating Mode Selection: Configure the unit into Automatic Locking Mode, Manual Locking Mode, or Internal Privacy Locking Mode depending on the facility's security protocol.
- Integrated Alarm Verification: Test the operational response of the lock engage alarm, intrusion/break-in alarm (triggered by unauthorized credential attempts or physical tampering), and the integrated fire detection alarm sensor.
- Optional Module Interfacing: Connect compatible external hardware, such as optional wireless remote control receiver modules and video door phone (VDP) integration lines, if remote release capabilities are required.
