Biomax SA72 Installation and Electrical Integration Guide

Mounting and Physical Siting

The Biomax SA72 standalone access controller features a slim mullion profile measuring 45 mm in width, 110 mm in height, and 22 mm in depth, with a net device weight of 0.12 kg. This narrow physical envelope allows direct surface mounting onto architectural door frames, aluminum storefront mullions, or standard masonry surfaces where lateral wall space is limited. Installers should align the unit to allow unobstructed presentation of proximity cards or keyfobs within its specified 2 to 5 cm reading range. The integrated digital backlit keypad ensures high-contrast key visibility for numeric entry in unlit or low ambient light conditions. The device is engineered to operate across an ambient temperature range of -40 °C to 60 °C and an operating relative humidity of 0% to 95% (non-condensing).

Electrical Supply and Circuit Protection

The controller requires a continuous, regulated DC 12V operating supply. Solid-state internal circuitry maintains an idle current consumption of ≤ 30 mA during standby, minimizing system thermal load and auxiliary power consumption. To safeguard sensitive electronics against field wiring faults, the lock output circuit incorporates integrated short-circuit protection that isolates the switching output within ≤ 100 microseconds (µs), preventing permanent driver damage during line shorts or accidental hardware cross-wiring.

Lock and Alarm Output Wiring Architecture

The Biomax SA72 provides onboard switching capabilities designed to directly actuate standard 12V DC locking hardware and external warning devices without requiring interposing relays, provided rated loads are respected:

  • Electric Lock Output: Direct drive for fail-safe (power-to-lock) or fail-secure (power-to-open) electric strikes, electromagnetic locks, or motorized drop bolts up to a maximum lock output load of 1 A.
  • Alarm Output Load: Heavy-duty external alarm switching contacts rated up to a maximum load capacity of 20 A for external sounders, strobes, or security integration circuits.
  • Door Release Duration: The internal relay timer is field-programmable from 0 to 99 seconds to meet specific architectural egress and ingress clearance requirements.

Wiegand 26 (WG26) Data Interface

The device includes standardized Wiegand 26-bit (WG26) input and output connectivity to accommodate diverse site architectures:

  • Standalone Controller with Auxiliary Reader: Connect a secondary Wiegand 26 external proximity card reader via the WG26 input leads to achieve secure bi-directional (in/out) credential verification on a single door.
  • Sub-Reader into Central Control Panel: Route the WG26 data output lines into an external third-party access controller, utilizing the SA72 as a remote keypad and proximity credential entry point.

Keypad Commissioning and Programming

The Biomax SA72 operates as a self-contained unit that does not require external PC software or data networks for commissioning. All user configuration is performed locally through the digital backlit keypad. Installers can program up to 2,000 distinct user credentials, establish authorization operating modes (Card, Code, or Card + Code), configure individual PIN codes, and adjust the door opening delay from 0 to 99 seconds.
