Adhesive-Free Push-On Mounting Mechanism
The Knuffi 11011 (PB-11011) Type B+ edge protection profile utilizes a mechanical friction-fit design that eliminates the need for liquid adhesives, double-sided tapes, mounting brackets, or drilled hardware. Engineered with an internal tension profile, the slotted channel securely clamps directly onto exposed structural edges. This push-on mounting style allows for rapid integration onto production line frames, I-beams, warehouse racking, conveyor side guards, and sheet metal edges without causing mechanical or surface damage to the underlying substrate.
Substrate Compatibility and Edge Sizing
Proper mechanical retention depends on matching the profile's internal slot dimensions to the mounting flange. The Type B+ bumper guard features an internal slot width of 12 mm (0.47 in) and a slot depth of 25 mm (0.98 in), with overall cross-sectional dimensions of 50 mm by 50 mm (1.97 in by 1.97 in). It is precision-engineered for edges and flanges measuring approximately 12 mm in nominal thickness.
- Compatible Materials: Deburred plate steel, structural I-beams, channel iron, angle profiles, machinery chassis, sheet metal fabrications, plastic flanges, glass panels, and timber edges.
- Edge Thickness Requirements: Substrates significantly thinner than 12 mm may not provide sufficient friction fit and can result in profile slippage. Conversely, forcing the profile onto edges substantially thicker than 12 mm can deform or tear the polyurethane foam core.
- Flange Clearance: Ensure an edge depth clearance of up to 25 mm to allow the profile channel to seat fully against the edge.
Pre-Installation Surface and Edge Preparation
Before fitting the Knuffi 11011 guard, inspect the target edge to ensure a clean, stable seating area. All metal burrs, sharp flashings, weld spatter, and jagged protrusions should be ground smooth or deburred. Jagged metal edges can score or compromise the internal polyurethane foam during slide-on placement. Remove heavy grease, loose rust, moisture, and particulate matter along the flange to maintain optimal grip along the internal gripping surface.
Field Cutting and Profile Sizing
Supplied in standard lengths of 1 m (1,000 mm / 39.37 in) with a nominal weight of approximately 0.5 kg per section, the profile can be customized on-site to fit specific equipment dimensions.
- Cutting Tools: Use a sharp, heavy-duty utility knife or a fine-toothed saw to achieve clean, square cuts across the 50 mm x 50 mm cross-section.
- Measuring: Measure the target run precisely before cutting. When terminating at corners or adjoining sections, cut the profile at a 90-degree square or miter the profile at a 45-degree angle to create continuous yellow-and-black safety warning borders.
Step-by-Step Installation Process
- Measure and Trim: Determine the required run length along the equipment edge or overhead clearance zone, and cut the 1 m profile to size.
- Position the Channel: Align the 12 mm slot opening over the lead edge of the structural flange.
- Press into Place: Apply firm, uniform hand pressure along the exterior 50 mm x 50 mm outer body, seating the edge fully into the 25 mm deep channel. Avoid using sharp tools or hard metal hammers that could puncture the outer polyurethane protective skin.
- Verify Alignment: Check along the entire length to confirm that the profile is fully seated against the flange bottom and that the high-visibility yellow and black warning stripes remain straight and aligned.
Operational Range and Reusability
Once seated, the Knuffi Type B+ profile operates effectively across a wide industrial temperature range of -40°C to +100°C (-40°F to +212°F) and satisfies DIN 4102 B2 fire classification standards. Because the mounting relies entirely on mechanical clamping tension rather than permanent adhesives, the guard can be removed non-destructively for equipment repainting, deep-cleaning cycles, or mechanical servicing, and subsequently re-installed directly onto clean 12 mm flanges.
