FAQ

What surfaces, temperatures, and chemical exposures are compatible with 3M 766 vinyl tape?

Answer:
Apply 3M 766 to clean, dry industrial surfaces at temperatures between 16 °C and 27 °C (60 °F to 80 °F) for optimal adhesion. The vinyl backing resists common general solvents, but exposure to ketones, esters, and chlorinated hydrocarbons must be avoided.

Surface & Installation Conditions:
For maximum bond development, 3M 766 hazard tape should be applied to surfaces that are dry, grease-free, and thoroughly cleaned. The recommended surface application temperature window is 16 °C to 27 °C (60 °F to 80 °F). It is designed for non-critical plant marking, including equipment pinch point identification, physical hazard callouts, and temporary floor marking around spills or equipment zones.

Chemical & Environmental Resistance:
While the vinyl backing provides good barrier resistance against general common workplace solvents and moisture, care must be taken to avoid contact with aggressive industrial chemicals. Exposure to ketones, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and esters—frequently found in paint strippers, degreasers, lacquers, and heavy thinners—can penetrate the vinyl layer, causing the backing to curl, swell, or lift from the substrate.

Storage Requirements:
To preserve adhesive performance over its 18-month shelf life, store rolls inside their original packaging out of direct sunlight at 16 °C to 27 °C (60 °F to 80 °F) and 40% to 60% relative humidity.
